- Preserve Manager
Description
The Preserve Manager is generally responsible for advancing the mission of the Southern Plains Land Trust ("SPLT"), including working with the Executive Director to implement its strategic plan. In addition, the Preserve Manager is responsible for (1) leading all programs related to preserve management and animal management, (2) co-leading all programs related to land management and ecological restoration, and (3) supporting the Conservation Director’s science and conservation initiatives as needed.
DUTIES:
Preserve management: Leads monitoring, maintenance, and repair of facilities and infrastructure including buildings, wells, stock tanks, fences, vehicles, etc. Leads and coordinates visits to the preserves.
Animal management: Leads regular monitoring, feeding, and documentation of sanctuary animals and bison herd. Leads development and implementation of a bison management plan and overall animal management plan. Develops strategic partnerships related to large animal management and bison in particular.
Land management: Leads restoration projects including activities such as controlled burns, invasive woody removal, riparian restoration, fence removal/replacement, etc.
Land acquisition: supports Executive Director in technical aspects of land acquisition.
Conservation program: Supports Conservation Director as needed on all wildlife and plant conservation activities.
Occasionally provides content for social media and e-newsletters, and gives presentations when needed.
Consult with the Board of Directors regarding any policy decisions, important issues, and progress towards SPLT's restoration, education, and research goals
Utilize training opportunities to maximize professional growth and success of the organization.
Ensure compliance with SPLT policies and land management plans.

Valid U.S. driver's license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, grasp, or feel; and reach with hands and arms
Regularly required to lift up to 50 lbs.
Regularly required to talk and hear
Regularly required to climb stairs, ladders, kneel; crouch; stoop; crawl; balance; push; and pull
Regularly required to be around large animals such as the bison which SPLT has reintroduced to Heartland Ranch Nature Preserve
