Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate Forestry Technician to join our team at Pacific Forest Trust, a leading forest conservation organization. As a Forestry Technician, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the implementation of our on-the-ground forest management across a number of our managed properties. Additionally, you will be engaged in mapping, modelling and inventory work, while also contributing to the analyses associated with both our conservation easements and fee title acquistions.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Under the direction of the Stewardship Forester, coordinate and implement PFT’s restoration forest stewardship programs on PFT managed forests to accelerate the attainment of our long-term ecological goals.

·         Manage/carry-out all aspects of field and operational forestry including inventory, contractor solicitation and supervision, permitting, and coordination with sub-contractors, including loggers, cruisers, road contractors, biologists, and others as needed.

·         Identify ecological restoration opportunities and help secure funding to implement projects.

·         Engage with neighboring landowners and monitor and enforce trespass issues as needed.

   Travel frequently to the various tracts of PFT managed forests. Travel may be 60% of time

·         Be able to spend full days working in the field.



Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

•    Bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental studies, or related field.
•    At least 2 years technical/field forestry experience in Oregon/California, including silvicultural practices, operational aspects and costs, log markets, and forest inventory.
•    Strong spatial and quantitative/tabular data skills as they relate to forest inventory, data management, and growth-and-yield modeling.
•    Proficient with software programs including Microsoft products, ArcGIS Pro, and forest inventory management programs such as FVS, FPS, etc.
•    Experience in implementing timber management plans.
•    Strong organizational and communication skills.
•    Knowledge of private working forest conservation and climate resilient management practices is a plus.
•    Familiarity with fire and the Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) community is helpful.
•    Self-motivated with passion for well-managed working forests.

TRAVEL
Frequent local travel, with some regional travel required. Must own a vehicle suitable for travel on native surface forest roads and have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Applicant must be willing and comfortable working and hiking in adverse terrain and weather conditions. 

LOCATION
Central-central coastal Oregon. This job requires extensive time in central coastal and southern Oregon as well as some time in northern California.
